Here Kitty, Kitty!

I must say that I still love the Prints of all types of large cats (in moderation), but weren't these in style like three or four years ago? I don't mind, because they look very cool with a great pair of jeans (animal print shirt), or a nice animal print coat, or some animal print shoes, etc. etc.  As long as it isn't overkill, where you match the animal print leggings with the animal print shoes and then the matching accessories like the animal print purse, and  on, and on add nauseum.  I would like to see something different.  Like ostrich feathers! ooh, pretty!

Tom Ford's return to the Runway

Thank the stars and the heavens for bringing my future baby daddy back to the runway!  Tom Ford brought New York Fashion Week to life with his first runway show in 6 years!  Tom has been dabbling (rather successfully) in the movie business (as a director) with his award-winning film "A Single Man"  and other projects, so we don't get to see his glorious face as often as we would like!  Mr. Ford disguised his fashion show as a cocktail party so that guest would arrive unaware of the treat they were in for.  Celebrities modeled his new line for women, with the likes of Beyonce, Julianne Moore, Lauren Hutton and others.  It's good to have you back, Tom! Call Me!

Fashion Week is here! (And I still can't go...)

I love the Fall! It means the kids go back to school, crisp breezy evenings, great styles to wear, and of course NEW YORK FASHION WEEK!!!  The star-studded event is off to a roaring start, and i will try to post the highlights from the best of the best from the runway.   But for now, I will just mention one word....TOM.  Ok I will just say it in two words...TOM FORD! My future baby daddy (in my head), has returned to the runway in all of his glorified gay splendor! Stay tuned!

I LOVE YOU ANDRE!

Hello Wannabe's! I know that I have been absent for much of the Fashion Season, but life had seemed to drop-kick me into a corner! I am still fighting my way out, but I wanted to get back to my old self - and start talking about the things and people that make me wanna holla! OK. I was so excited about the premier of America's Next Top Model (ANTM to we in the know), and the fact that the magnificent Andre Leon Talley (Editor at Large for Vogue magazine) is one of the guest judges! Yay! Wake the neighbors and tell the kids! I want Andre to kick some class into the show and he does not disappoint! I also want to see him without his "Mu Mu" on; I know that his man is classy and statuesque but you could never tell with all of that material that he wears! Come on Andre, what are you afraid of? Let's see those amazing custom-tailored suits that you have hidden under that tent of fabric! I wonder if he will ever stand up and walk around? Will he and Tyra Banks clash? Will he give the girls a personal mentoring session? These questions will be answered on the next episode of ANTM! Patently Gauche!

Farewell Lee; you gave us a good show!

LEE ALEXANDER MCQUEEN: MARCH 17, 1969 - FEBRUARY 11, 2010

One of the greatest showmen of fashion passed away nearly two weeks ago, and the fashion world is still mourning it's loss.  As British Fashion week got underway, the President of the British Fashion Council proclaimed a moment of silence in memory of the designer.  Many celebrities and collegues paid tribute to him, i.e. Lady Ga Ga. No one else could bring a spark to runway like the lobster-claw shoe creator, who brought theater to the otherwise hum-drum, copy cat, wannabe, elitist fashion world.  He took risks; he dared to be different and didn't care what people or critics said about him.  He was an original.  He was innovative.  He will be deeply missed.

Fashion Week Follies!

I cannot wait to start talking about the trends on the runways!  But first, what is with all of the male models looking so plastic and striking the "Zoolander" pose?  I am tired of the ruffles, and the Holly Hobbie dresses, and the prissy poses.  I want to see drama! I want to see color! Make me drool with envy! So far it is a snooze fest this fashion season, but there are some bright spots...

HOW TO DRESS IN THE RECESSION Part I

As we ring in 2010, we still face an incredible unemployment rate of almost 10% and a recession that seems to take it's sweet time ending anytime soon.  Although these statistics seem dismal, there is still the need to seek employment or business opportunities (because bills still need to be paid)!

No matter what industry you are seeking employment in, or if you are returning to school, there are a few fashion staples that you will need to "dress for success."  Now, I don't mean to be rude or disrespectful, but let's be real: in today's economy the main source of income for some is an unemployment check or government assistance benefits.  These monthly stipends are barely enough to cover basic living expenses, let alone shop for a job interview or a day at school.  Therefore, this week will be devoted to tips and resources for finding those necessary staples for a polished look for little money at all, and look as if you stepped out of the pages of a fashion magazine!

So Now you've got the interview, so what do you do?  Well First of all, do not turn the interview into an all our "audition!"  Maintain the same neutral colors that you wore during the "job fare"experience.  Add an accessory or two, such as a colorful neck scarf (the short ones), or trendy broach.  Once again, do NOT over do it! No large jewelry, different colored hair - and I mean any neon colors or trying to channel Lady Ga Ga.

You can find affordable white shirts or any neutral colored shirts, suits, shoes and accessories at Goodwill Industries, or even "higher end" fashion separates can be found at Target or even Walmart! If you cannot afford to buy what you need, even at these stores, we will talk about using what you do have in your closet or borrowing it!

If you are going to look for a job or going to your first day on a new job, there are basic staples (for both Men and Women) that you will need to look sharp!

  1. A white collar shirt
  2. Comfortable, and "correct fitting" slacks in a neutral color, or "correct fitting" suit in a neutral color.
  3. A folder or Portfolio (to carry Resumes) if you do not have a briefcase.
  4. Casual flat shoes or medium heeled shoes for women in a neutral color, or a casual dress shoe in a neutral color for men.  NO ATHLETIC SHOES!
Let me be clear: These items may seem boring, or rather "dull" because you should wear a neutral color (such as brown or black), but you are trying to get hired by a potential employer, not audition for American Idol.  So, keep the ensembles simple yet fashion forward, but leave the "fashion risks" to the runway.   Oh, and the folder, portfolio or briefcase is to add another air of professionalism by not having your resumes waving in the wind.  You can get a 3 for a dollar at Walmart or the neighborhood drug store.
